Why do you continuously have to caveat a great Hatate performance? His interplay and movement off the ball to find “time&space” at the weekend was brilliant to watch. Two great goals and an assist. Praise for others but the usual, damning Hatate with faint praise. He has his flaws but my word, he is massively under appreciated and under valued on this pod.
Per my analytical framework, he has arguably been the least valuable attacking midfielder we have played a material amount of minutes over the past 9 seasons, and consistently so.
I say "arguably" because Ntcham was similar/worse his last two seasons but WAAAY more valuable his first two, including the 2nd when he seemed to down tools for a stretch. Engels has been more valuable this season but only because of his set piece deliveries, so he is also arguable, IMO.
The gap between his level and the likes of pre-Ange McGregor, Mooy, O'Riley, Armstrong, Christie, and even Turnbull and Rogic under Ange has been big - not even close.
I wonder if anyone else saw the bbc documentary on Klopp. It was interesting when the Liverpool analyst was comparing Brendan to Klopp. He was saying Klopp was always open to changing his opinion on what players they signed based on the analysts input whereas Brendan wasn't. He was saying that Brendan would always insist the only player that could do the job was was the one player he wanted for that position. Interesting the difference between the two managers maybe explains the Idah problem.
Thank you for sharing - I saw that interview with Graham shortly after it was done as part of his book release promotion. Have not seen the BBC documentary.
Obviously important to keep in mind his is one side of the story and also tinged with him promoting a book, but much of what he said aligns with my own analysis of our signings and utilization of players/roles over both Rodgers tenures.
Interesting that Klopp proceeded to win a sort of power struggle prior to his last seasons where even he couldn't resist asserting his control vs that of the FG analytics people...people, egos, etc!!!!
Yeah thought it might interest you guys as aligns with much of what you have been saying in recent years about our lack of profiling when it comes to signings.

But I do agree he had a good game Saturday.
Here is a link to an article about the Liverpool analyst and his comments on the difficulties getting Brendan to accept the importance of analytics.
