Alistair Johnston
The second of the end-of-season review articles considers the ever reliable Canadian fullback.
Alistair Johnston has become a core member of Brendan Rodgers' starting XI and a part of the leadership group within the club. I was surprised to be reminded he has only been at the club for two and a half seasons.
Also, part of an improving Canada national team, he completed more minutes than any other outfield player whilst picking up two Celtic trophies.
He played in four CONCACAF Nations League finals matches in addition to one international friendly to complete a hectic workload.
Injuries in late December and early May suggested his body was taking a toll.
This piece will not focus on comparing him to Tony Ralston, as I have covered a few times; there is quite a gap from Johnston back to Ralston.
Instead, this will be a piece along the lines of “has Johnston improved?”.
