Celtic 1, Heart of Midlothian 2 - 7th December, 2025
Wilfried Nancy's debut at a turbulent Celtic Park. It could have gone better.
Celtic’s lack of final third quality was starkly exposed as Heart of Midlothian delivered a smash-and-grab to move three points clear at the top, although the Bhoys have a game in hand.
There were many promising signs of the more relational movements and overload creations that Nancy has drilled into them in the last, errr, two days. And the counter pressing was on point.
A series of unfortunate (and/or careless, depending on your point of view) events led to the opener, and confidence dissipated at that point.
Poor corner marking against the strongest set-piece team in the league made it a difficult afternoon.
Finding ways to generate greater quality in the final third will be Nancy’s biggest test in the coming weeks, given no new personnel will be available until January latest (that means January 31st, folks!).
Bhoy of the Match was clear, and one of the senior pros stepped up.
There will be bumps ahoy, but if taken on board, Nancy’s game model is one that could dominate most SPFL teams.
