There’s been a lot of discussion about Celtic possibly switching to a 3-5-2 next season triggered by MON’s comments, and analysis by James (and others) of Duran. Is it even feasible?

Let’s assume only Reo and Daizen move on.

I reckon the first-choice 2 up front would be Osmand and Duran. The backup would be Iheanacho and Nygren. I’d be happy enough with that, but I don’t think Nygren would be. That’d get us back to Kenny and Shin.

Who would be the CBs? CCV, Trusty and Scales? CCV is one of the club’s best players, would it be a good idea to play him out of position at outside CB? The only other right-footed CB is Murray. It’s worth remembering that, first time around, MON jettisoned any CBs who were less than 6’ 3”.

I guess Johnston and Tierney would be the wingbacks. Again, they’re 2 of the best players at the club, so they can hardly be left out. However, the cover for them would likely be Ralston, Yang and Tounetki, and they’re not the same thing at all. What happens when/if Jota is fit? Change the team shape completely?

A central midfield of Engles, McGregor and AOC doesn’t fill me with confidence, but the alternative of McCowan, Bernardo and Balikwisha is terrifying.

I’d say a switch to 3-5-2 would need about 8 more new outfield signings plus a goalie. It would be intriguing, to say the least.

Great stuff boys.

The Celtic midfield has been the bane of my life since we were were walloped by The Rangers 3 nil at Ibrox under Sheikh Rodgers. Collectively not good enough and no combination provides solace; with no legs, drive, positivity or dig, being the obvious problem areas...unfortunately the 4 main areas for midfielders. Martin O'Neill has pounced to sign The Ox for another year, based on what exactly, the sports science noticed signs of an upsurge in his bench sitting from last season, or another squad filler? An awful, pathetic start to the window and now reports of Iheanacho being explored for another year. I think it was Johnny Logan who once warbled "What's Another Year" for Eire in the Eurovision song contest. For us at Celtic, watching on...more of the same.... with the can, barely recognisable from being hoofed down the road.
