all easily recognisable and established European competition club teams which makes the step down to EL a little easier to stomach and dare I say that I'm actually looking forward to this competition ( depending of course upon the last minute signings that this professional club of ours manage to get completed - wtf ! ) let's see where we are at come next Tuesday morning and then re-evaluate.
I haven't really got my head round ELO and a quick check with chatGPT wasn't especially helpful. Given the relative ELO ratings of the teams in the group, is the graphic something which could be taken as a n indicator of where teams are likely to finish in the league, or is it more of a "this is what their recent form tells us about them" kind of thing. Or am I barking up the wrong tree entirely?
The model takes into account every match each team plays and weights the outcome relative to the team being played. So you gain more points for beating a higher ranked team than you and lose more points if you lose to a team ranked lower than you. It is an imperfect means of comparing teams across competitions and territories. Like all models it is no doubt very flawed but if use indicatively it tells us something. Mainly , in this case, our opponents are all quite evenly matched bar probably Roma.
Thanks, Alan. I'm beginning to get my head round it. Sounds a bit like it came about as a result of some footballing boffin statisticians having a round of Mr. Blue Sky Thinking (oooft! Sorry)🙄
Some interesting data which indicates a pretty even group on the face of it. The huge issue for us is, with 3 days left we only have Maeda as a viable striker. He is off form at the moment and may not be here Monday. No matter who is in the group, we have no idea what Celtic will be like from now forward. A curates egg!!

As you say, could finish top 8 or bottom 12 with that, depends who we buy and whether Rodgers can put a coherent system together
