In this week’s Huddle Breakdown, Laura, Alan, and James dissect Celtic’s shocking defeat to Dundee — a performance Alan calls “abject” and “horrendous.” The trio break down what went wrong tactically, from static buildup play to lack of width and risk in attack, and question whether Brendan Rodgers’ methods have gone stale.
When 2 narcissists collide. Rodgers has done the right thing and should have gone after Almaty. Paid a fortune to win the SPFL and do better in Europe, did the first with ease but still could not get to last 16 in Europe. I wanted him back but I think, I was hoping for a more rounded manager after Leicester. However, it was still THE tactic/formation and his favourites. His big signings have on the whole flopped in his system; Idah sold, Trusty can't get a game because he's left footed, Engels, well not sure what his best position is and Tierney, well that was a vanity signing. We knew his injury history and went ahead, he's nowhere near the guy we need, hopefully I'm wrong. It was always the midfield with Hatate & McGregor getting free passes week in week out, while others were hooked quickly. The statements became more and more bizarre, one day HE APPROVED all signings, the next they were to be loaned or CLUB signings. Then there was the coward leaking to the press, that died a death as well, strange that. Ultimately he should have delivered much better than we've seen this season and he knew that. He now leaves a hero in what seems to be the majority of our supports eyes, whilst previously a rat, for leaving us in a much better position...but that's fitba fans. A long time ago I realised all these guys just pass through at Celtic FC bar the very few. Ultimately managers go when players give up on them, either deliberately or subconsciously The football was relentlessly dire, players treated differently and the club was in stasis with trust eroded, actually very similar to how it all ended at Leicester. So off he pops with no bad feelings from me, the good outweighed the bad and he'll have his right of reply...hopefully Danny McGrain will not be brought into it!!
Is there a part of our club that is better than mediocre ? Executive leadership, recruitment, player development, academy output, player trading, B Team....and now the first team. Appalling underperformance from top to bottom and all well substantiated by James/Alan. That said I have no idea why we should expect a change in formation to yield better performances and results. Rogers has not protected or insulated the team against shortcomings- quite the opposite he has treated some appalling and shown no ability to improve this team since losing to Bayern. The fish has rotted and it feels like we are now swimming in more dangerously competitive waters.
So, what are the chances of something new emerging in terms of our set up and approach to games so we have some sort of attacking edge? Could something emerge on Thursday? Personally, given that a good campaign in Europe is now a lost cause, I think the remaining Europa League games should be used for experimentation and giving some new blood a smell of first team football - we have nothing to lose if it goes horribly wrong as we don't have much of a recent reputation to protect, and more of the same will just result in, well, more of the same.
I definitely favour Arnie in a WB role as outlined on the pod, even if AJ returns. I'd be happy to see him as a right CB with KT on the left of CCV.
Anyway, something has to give otherwise I'll be asking myself on the drive home on Thursday night, "why did I even bother?".
DISCLAIMER: I didn't watch the game. I fell asleep before kickoff and woke, - been having sleep issues - I think it was 70mins at 2-0 down, messaged my cousin who told me it was gash so I swerved the end of game we were trailing by 2 goals late on.
... how are we saying Forrest and Yang (before Laura said the bit about disrespecting players with the Honda Civic thing) don't make us at least a Ferrari - boy, cars, as a subject, are outside of my comfort zone - with an axel on bricks?
Which new shape doesn't require functional right wingers?

... I assumed Kasper had another nightmare. Forrest, Cal (all 3 aged out) and Yang (not good enough) are binned.
Let's go Un--! Let's F-in' Gilloise? Couldn't bring myself to support the Union. HH

We are very good at getting rid of our poorly recruited players but I'd say we were actually elite at wasting our potential.
