Like The Broons and Oor Wullie, there are some annuals that we must have as a matter of habit.
One such is to chronicle the progress of captain Callum McGregor.
The Huddle Breakdown really started due to James trying to find a platform to document the decline in captain Scott Brown’s capabilities. At the time, this was seen as a highly contrarian position to take.
I hope that, whilst celebrating McGregor’s last contract extension as being a sensible piece of talent management relative to what would be available in the market, we have also been consistent in flagging and warning about the impending decline of our decorated leader.
My position, hitherto, has been – his capabilities are clearly declining but the value he adds in the role he is given is still worth it as it is largely unobtainable in the market.
The following will be as much an assessment of the resilience of his performances under duress – a team bereft of quality – as my annual documentation of his gradual decline (spoiler alert……doh!).
