While Celtic are only two games into the 2025-2026 league campaign, and despite what feels like a lot of anxiety within the support, the first two results have been undergirded by relative control and limiting opposition chance creation.

What about the attacking performances?

Brendan Rodgers has been consistent about the need for the club to add quality in attacking areas, whether that is at striker since Kyogo Furuhashi’s departure in January, or at wing since Nicolas Kuhn’s departure in July.

Two games is not a material sample size in isolation, but they have not occurred in isolation! They have taken place amidst a manager who seems to be crying out for help.

The first graphic shows the rolling 2-game average of non-penalty xG and xG from open play since the beginning of the 2018-2019 season. We can see from the very far right, the beginning to this season has been towards the lower end of the historic range.
