Regarding “we’ve never claimed xG was a silver bullet” - maybe not, but the pod has certainly given the impression over the years that the underlying data was what really matters, with the actual score being something that only ignorant plebs care about. Obviously being an analytics podcast you’ll play up the importance of performance metrics, but it will only ever be a small piece of the puzzle. Football is not baseball, and the map is not the territory.

Martins original stint at celtic. we absolutely crushed set pieces. always scoring.

suppose if you had a mcnamara alan Thompson. guppy ect putting balls into Sutton larsson hartson baldy mjalbay . a freekick on the side was almost always a goal.

You strike at the heart of the potential risks of MON preferences vs what out squad composition is - i.e. we are lacking in the physicality which better enable his style to be played at a higher level, IMO. That was partly why we looked so bad vs Midtjylland, St Mirren in Paisely, and 2nd half of the Cup final under Nancy.

Outside of football, the last 2 weeks have been a a helluva year, eh? 'Thank goodness for a turn in our club fortunes' indeed!

Scott Bain could be the difference between comfort and dropped points, eh? Whenever have we sold a player only for them to almost immediately come and make our lives harder later? <coughs and says "Barca, Larsson" under breath> HH
