True Love Is Nothing More Than The Wrong Hill To Die On
Many Celtic supporters are in a head swirl of emotions with Kyogo leaving but possibly Tierney and Jota arriving. Find peace, tranquillity, and certainty in the numbers.
I will admit I had the (childish) romantic notion that Kyogo Furuhashi was one of those players who would see out his years as a Celtic player. He seemed to love Scotland and the club and at 30 years of age, shoulder issue notwithstanding, had the game intelligence and professionalism to play on productively for another few seasons.
How wrong.
No harm to Kyogo. He has been consistently terrific for three and a half seasons and could not have been a more model professional.
And let’s not let this take any shine off Wednesday’s achievement of Champions League progression with a game to spare. The pre-tournament predictions about who had the easier draw are fairly redundant when you see the travails of Manchester City, Paris St. Germain, RB Leipzig and even Real Madrid.
This is a major season milestone achieved, and it should be marked and celebrated.
So, back to transfers.
What an emotional mindfuck this window is shaping up to be!
Adorable smiling striker – OFF – AAAAAGHHH.
Prodigal Son returns – AAAAHHHHHHH.
Jota on the wing? – OOOOOOOOOOOO.
Greg Taylor not signing a new contract. Oh.
You can’t fall in love with these guys, people. It’s too much for the ol’ heart to handle.
There is nothing for it but to get all serious and analysisy about it. If you feel a tear a-comin’, open up a spreadsheet. It’s the only way.
We’ll turn our attention to the wing position.
I thought it would be fun to compare Daizen Maeda and Nicolas Kuhn with Liel Abada and Jota. They have all played the primary wing roles under Ange Postecoglou and Brendan Rodgers. As Rodgers stated, the team does not play that differently currently than they did under the Australian. So, it is a fair comparison.
