Some more suggested topics to cover on future podcasts. As before, no need to reply. I made some suggestions a week ago in response to the “That was Hearts, This is Brugge” podcast, then a few days later added a few more in the same thread. So, this is Part III, and it’s not often that trilogies work out good, anyway here goes…

1. Can you tell us more about the actual technology used. For example, that worn by every Celtic player during a game, what data does it actually provide? If not specifically Celtic then typically. What analysis tools do clubs use, it can’t all be on Excel (as good as it is). Maybe ours is on Lotus 1-2-3?😀 (Does anyone remember Paradox?) Do they wear this in training also? Can you ‘pair’ players, for example, to measure how close the centre backs are at all times? Basically, what can you do with the technology?

2. With the introduction of GDPR in recent years, who owns the data, the club or the player? Can a player take his data with him when he goes to a new club? Does the club have to delete it when the player moves on?

3. Ball in play - are there stats on how many minutes the ball is in play over the years that reflects evolution of styles of play, or has it not changed much?

4. McGregor as no.6. Can you analyse his on ball attacking attributes vs his off ball defensive attributes? I mean compared to a good level no.6 outwith Celtic. I may be doing him a disservice but it does seem obvious that his offensive analytics are better than his defensive ones but would be good to know as opposed to think. What prompted this thought was the Champions League games - obviously in the SPL the defensive attributes of McGregor, or whoever we play in that position, aren’t overly important generally but are more of an issue in more challenging games.

5. Taylor v Valle. I didn’t really think Valle would be challenging Taylor for the first team this season but now I am thinking it is getting closer. Any data showing their relative merits?

Hi Mike let me try and at least unpack some of this!

1. Short answer is no

2. V interesting point - was speaking to an industry insider that opined to me that GDPR is one of the reasons eg tracking data may never be available to the public.

3. Statsbomb provide this which means i cannot publish but may be able to drop into conversation. Basically ball in play time in Scotland is relatively low but higher in Celtic matches - around 56 mins.

4. I have done this over the years - goto the Celtic By Numbers tab and search for Mcgregor

5. yes will need to do that at some point

thanks

Forecast for tomorrow night's game in Aberdeen looks a bit tasty. Heavy rain and 54mph gusts. Could be a bit of a leveller, as they say.

There must be an analytical model to assess whether inclement weather does create a "leveller", or is this just a myth?
